make your own - magnetic notice board
If you have an extra shelf or two that you don't know what to do with, we have the DIY for you! We are going to show you how to turn your extra shelf into a magnetic noticeboard, to keep all of your to-do lists, reminders and happy photos on show. You can colour coordinate it to your locker too, and you know how we love to match our lockers!
Have you taken a shelf out of your locker because you don't use them? Maybe your Skinny is your cleaning cupboard and you need the space for your vacuum, or you use the space in the Twinny to hang all of your dresses and jumpsuits? We love that our lockers are so versatile but we really hate waste which is why this DIY is so great! You can make use of that spare shelf in a way that is pretty and totally practical.
It's really easy, super cute + will make life a little more organised!
What you need:
- Leather strap 1.5cm wide x 50cm long x 0.4cm thick- We measured ours for the width of the Shorty shelf but you can adjust the length based on which shelf you are using!
- Locker shelf in your choice of colour. If you have a spare from your own locker, amazing! If not, you can shop extra shelves here.
- Heavy duty leather hole punch pliers
- 2 gold leather crafts screws
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Sharp scissors
Step by step
one.
Cut the leather 50cm long.
We used a Shorty/Skinny shelf here, if you are using a bigger shelf, measure it to suit. Make sure both ends are cut nice and straight!
two.
Punch one hole in each end of the leather using the heavy duty hole punch. Make sure the hole is at least half a centimetre from the end of the leather strip. Punching the hole is seriously satisfying!
three.
Attach the leather strap to the locker shelf using the gold bolts by screwing them together through the leather and holes already on either side of the shelf.
four.
It's time to fill your new noticeboard! Cover it in postcards, photos, Wordbits + things that make you smile, use it as a mood board or keep it in your study to get yourself organised! : )
Here we've used a Shorty/Skinny shelf in Olive and White and a Midi shelf in Mustard. The one door locker shelves will be portrait and the two door locker shelves will be landscape!
It really is that simple and it is our favourite way to use extra shelves. We love using our Wordbits to hang lovely things on the magnetic noticeboards in our office, or using them to spell out messages to each other! We also did a round up of our other favourite magnets from small businesses on the blog which you can read here if you are craving more inspiration. Or, if you have caught the DIY bug (we know we have!) check out one of our other DIYs where we show you how to make your own cute and colourful pom-pom magnets!

That is fantastic idea. My skinny is used for upright hoover! I just laid extra shelf on base of locker. Now I am definitely going to make this notice board. Thanks girls. X
